Necessity The Mother of Invention

I find my self draw in  a variety of  directions by various needs that must be met.  Some of these are genuine needs like eating, sleeping, shelter, and the acquisition of those things by working. Some of these needs are not quite so urgent and get set to the side if the cost is to high. I find these needs modified by desire or pain.

Desire drives otherwise not so needful needs to higher levels of importance. For example, I really want a artisan grade cabinet makers table saw I just cant afford such a silly thing. I am a middle of the road home maker of woodworking and cabinets. I have a great desire for better tools like the table saw so I went searching for an alternative I can afford. I found a plan for a format table saw by Hector Acevedo and  Andre Wagner.

As can be seen from the picture it is a very useful tool. It is designed to work with full sheets of plywood and would be an awesome addition to the shop. This also makes my point about desire modifying needs... by the way Hector (located in Uruguay) can be reached at topocalc@gmail.com and Andre (located in Germany) can be reached at aw-productions@gmx.de . I downloaded the plans from http://www.aw-thinkbold.com/ and paid with PayPal.

Pain can also drive lower level needs to higher level requirements. Take for example the fact that I have been having a lot more pain typing due to my thumbs being very sensitive. I am now typing this with a foot pedal for my space bar. The pain drove me to look for alternatives to the ergonomic keyboard I am using.  I am not sure this is the solution but it is different. I got a iKKEGOL USB Single Foot Switch Control One Key Customized Computer Keyboard Action Pedal HID in Yellow.

Ok. There is supposed to be a picture of this foot pedal here but I can't seem to capture an image and get it to go here... If you have suggestions other than capturing from Google images or from the makers site please leave them here.... LOL I will figure this out eventually and drop in an image. I think I figured it out but I am out of time... so I will drop it latter...sigh! See jig saw pic below YAY!

I had to download the software from the manufacturer and the site was a bit confusing but here I am. using this thing and it helps some... It seems very stiff... It can be found on amazon or at the makers site http://pcsensor.com/ It is what looks like a Chinese site but I needed to see if this would help in a budget... So far so good. There is a learning curve but the software is very intuitive.

I think the point is that our direction in our life can be changed by other forces than just primary need. Our circumstances are very much driving factors in our needs in life. As another example I am finishing and starting other projects I have been talking about. As previously mentioned I am making tool boxes and finishing up a workbench. To do this I am making a small router table, a box joint jig, and an improved drill table for the drill press. I find even though I have pretty much all the supplies that I now have to put this off to get the shop ready for winter... Desire and the requirement to be warm in the soon chilling weather driving me sideways.

I am now working on resurrecting a 1950's jig saw from Montgomery Wards to use in order to finish the insulation and sealing of the garage doors. I am sealing the folding part of the door by inserting precision cut blocks (thus the jig saw) into the folding portions of the door, small triangular spaces, with an exterior flap seal overlapping the door and blocks... I will figure out how to bring pictures here as I get the shop sealed...

The jig saw is a Montgomery Wards Powr-Kraft Jig saw circa late 1950's. The model is 35TSW-2350A. It looks pretty much identical to the picture below. Cast iron with very little to clean up.

I cleaned up the table in a sand blaster and it needs oil (30 weight), a moter with a 2" pulley for a v-belt, and of course the belt. I can get this all mounted on a board and it is ready to go. I forgot the electrical of course... so it will need a cord and a switch. Safety, it needs a belt cover too. so for my practically free jig saw it will be around 200 dollars.

got to run but will post this and polish it later...

Recumbent tadpole trike: Posts on Velomobilforum p.8

Hello Hein, Titan Wolf, trike like (Martin?) and Stephan (shs2_de) It has been a couple of weeks since I was able to remark on what I have been doing with the idea of a tilting space frame trike and I have some things to share. I have built another new prototype of a tilting mechanism and have already come up with a new version. Interestingly enough my newest designs bears a great resemblance to what Stephan (shs2_de) worked on with his suspension system at the beginning of this forum file. It may be interesting to Stephan and others to see a modification of that suspension system. I have also spent a considerable time with my husband and a friend remodeling our 2 bathrooms as well as working overtime… Sigh real life… enough said on that subject. Before I much go on I want to address a couple of comments from Wolf. I read your comment on obstacles in the road and thought about that in terms of tilting and locking the tilt mechanism. First I think that a tilting trike (1 st te

Recumbent tadpole trike: Posts on Velomobilforum p.6 Hello sheng-fui, I understand about translations since I must use one for German! I think I would miss so much without the translation as I found out the first time I looked at the forum with the machine translation. So German on Velomobilforum and American on my blog… Perhaps I will get it right the first time! ;D So on to leaning trikes. I think I came up with a better geometry for the XYZ Leaning trike than what I presented but I am having real difficulty putting it into 2 dimensions. To solve that I am making a prototype in plywood. It will hopefully help me visualize. Maybe my prototype will let me take pictures that make sense instead of sketches and text descriptions. I believe what I have in mind is a bit like the Chike trike without suspension. I think the Chike trikes are awesome! I think these trikes use a fairly common geometry. The nose rotates and with a modified wishbone they are supporting balance wi

Recumbent tadpole trike: Posts on velomobilforum p.7 Hello! I have been doing some fast prototyping in plywood. I glued up a strip of 3/4" plywood and  1/4" plywood (they are actually metric ply close to those measurements) to get a small sheet of 1" thick plywood. So I then cut this to made some 1" square plywood dowels about 8 foot long.  From these dowels , some wood screws, and a couple of bolts I put together a proof of concept tilting trike frame. I want to play with it a bit and will buy more hardware to hopefully put on some wheels.  Nothing I built is usable for riding. This is literally just a full scale model and a poor one at that. Mostly I want to see the full size geometry and how the machine functions. So here are my pictures from shortly after the sun was up so forgive the shadows. Now tilting Right Now Tilting  Left Now a couple of close ups of the middle. I will post more as I bui
