Low cost loft bed

This is yet again a distraction from working on setting up the shop... Not an unappreciated one but still... I get to play with the GIMP drawing program to make a scratch design for a very cheap and minimal loft bed.  This is designed for a twin long mattress or a twin normal length bed and a space for a built in desk underneath.     The desk size and the rail size is not well defined but are sufficient for a build with little guessing. The head board and the back board have cauls glued in place to hold the desk top in place.  The subpanels themselves are glued and screwed together in order to ensure solidity and rejection of racking. All subpanels are screwed together in place to make the full structure disassemblable to allow it to fit through doors .   The following shows the general structure and the subpanel geometry.  I will eventually get a general cut diagram up here and included is the current cost study as of 09-19-2017 from Home Depot.

Necessity The Mother of Invention

I find my self draw in  a variety of  directions by various needs that must be met.  Some of these are genuine needs like eating, sleeping, shelter, and the acquisition of those things by working. Some of these needs are not quite so urgent and get set to the side if the cost is to high. I find these needs modified by desire or pain.   Desire drives otherwise not so needful needs to higher levels of importance. For example, I really want a artisan grade cabinet makers table saw I just cant afford such a silly thing. I am a middle of the road home maker of woodworking and cabinets. I have a great desire for better tools like the table saw so I went searching for an alternative I can afford. I found a plan for a format table saw by Hector Acevedo and  Andre Wagner.   As can be seen from the picture it is a very useful tool. It is designed to work with full sheets of plywood and would be an awesome addition to the shop. This also makes my p

Ongoing conversion of analog resources to digital format

I have been working on putting all the sundry sketches, drawings, and ideas into digital format. Not such an easy task. I have been setting this up and not using the resources I have at hand for some time. I have lots of computer resources for doing analog to digital transfers. Most of it is pointed at audio transfers but it seems I am more interested in making and setting these electronics up than I am working with them... I am working at changing this trend of setting up and not using my resources right now.   Some time ago I bought a Genius MousePen 8x6. This is a rather nice, and fairly cheap, pen tablet for drawing and manipulating on screen objects using a pen. It has a pressure sensitive tip so it can be used for shading and a variety of on screen uses.    I have also acquired a copy of GIMP 2 which is a GNU image manipulation program. This is a nice freeware drawing program that does layers and all sorts of "paint" like manipulation programs. The GIMP works o
